Medtech Pathology

The Medtech PMS contains features to receive Pathology results from Labs.

There are currently multiple ways for a lab to send Pathology results to the Medtech PMS.

• Sending an HL7 file utilising the Healthlink network, received by the Medtech Message Transfer Utility
• Sending an HL7 over HTTP request to the ALEX platform, which converts HL7 2.4 ORU_R01 messages into FHIR resources
• Sending a Pathology results as a FHIR bundle

The third use case, Sending a Pathology results as a FHIR bundle is outlined in this scenario.

Pathology FHIR Resources

To send Pathology results to the Medtech PMS using FHIR, the API consumer must form DiagnosticReport and Observation resources in accordance to the appropriate Resource Profiles.

This includes:

• A Medtech Pathology DiagnosticReport resource to represent the clinical context of the Laboratory report
• One or many Medtech Pathology Observation resource/s are used to represent the atomic results for a particular investigation

When a DiagnosticReport is created using the above FHIR Profile, an Inbox Record is sent to the Medtech PMS, as per below:
